Cause and Effects

Cause

Abolition originated with a Dominican priest who witnessed the treatment of Indian slaves from Charles V king of Spain who passed it as a new law. Soon after a slave escaped and went to court with his owner/master and thats when abolition grew. The judge favored the slave and  later the slave trade act started.

Impact

Effects

It became illegal to carry slaves on British ships. It led to over 300 slaves freed during the abolition movement.

It abolished slave trade in British colonies. But this act didn't free all of the slaves as everyone had hoped it took a lot longer for the slaves to be free after the abolition act.

Social

After slavery was abolished African Americans still weren't treated the same. They didn't have as many rights as the whites. This was called segregation which went on for many years. It gave African Americans very little rights and changed the school system to keep the colored children separate from the whites children.

Economic

After Slavery was abolished many jobs opened up because there weren't any slaves to do their work. A lot of people had to sell many of their stuff to afford a worker. Even though there were a lot of job openings African Americans still weren't able to get a job because they were so hated against

Global

After many attempts to escape for freedom during slavery it finally led to abolishing it. This spread all around the world and eventually all slaves were free. Although they weren't treated as equals, they still had the right to call themselves free.

Gain and Loss

Loss

Many lives were lost during abolition because the amount of times that the slaves tried to escape and failed. Many were beaten and tortured until they were killed others were just killed on the spot.

Gain

While fighting for there freedom the slaves gained momentum to actually try harder. They were able to gain strength and hope to try and escape which eventually all paid off because they were finally free.
